Prove me wrong, but it seems there has always been this thing with actors and actresses who aspire to be in a good band or do solo work…for the life of me I can’t think of ONE that I have listened to where I would buy their music.
On the other hand, I see musicians become decent to good actors and actresses. Albeit the first that come to mind are rappers such as Ice Cube, Ice-T, and even Eminem was decent in his own “biography”.
Can anyone name me 3 actors or actresses (by nature) who put out a decent album or two?
Sweet challenge. You’re right that there are tons of instances of singers/musicians turned actor. What’s crazy is that the list contains some of the best artists of their generation (e.g. Tom Waits, Lyle Lovett, Kris Kristofferson, Dwight Yoakam, Gene Simmons, etc., etc.). But, yeah, the other way around tends to be the like of 50 Odd Pounds of Total Crap (Russel Crowe’s band). Still I offer the following powerful counter-example:Eddie Murphy. I’d never purchase whatever album the single came out on, but “My Girl Wants To Party All the Time” kinda rules.
Shatner. Lucy in The Sky.
actually, Rocketman.
Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett of Rilo Kiley are the only real exceptions I can think of. Other than that, musicians can be good actors, but actors cannot be good musicians. It’s a law of the universe.
holy shit topple…that’s hysterical
pax…I don’t think I’d purchase EM’s …party all the time because it’s still stuck in my damn head.

The little huggie bear freak out? Also, what the hell is that metal guitar player in there for and what is he actually playing? I don’t hear a guitar even in that song.
Mandy Moore
Many Moore…hmmm I guess there’s one.
Keanu ReevesJared LetoKevin BaconDavid HasselhoffAnd “My Girl Wants to Party All the Time” produced by the late Rick James is perhaps the best song by an actor ever.
*deep breath*Streisand…? 🙂
She was a musician first tho no?
